What animal best describes you and/or what do you think you would be if you were born as one?

And what is your favorite animal?

For me I've always thought either a Elephant or a Horse, because I've always had more of a connection with those animals and I just seem natural around them, My favorite animal is a cat, my fiance has a cat called Friday and he is the most clean/posh cat I've met, hes nice (when hes not clawing me).

Not sure what type of animal I would be if I was born as one but I'd hope it is one of the above. :)

I don't play favorites. I'm comfortable with thinking of the human species as a niche within an ecosystem, and I notice that even pets seem to have individual personalities, so I couldn't be speciesist about it. How do you spell that word? Specieist?

That said, I like the symbolism of snakes. I keep reinventing myself, and I need warmth from outside to stay alive. I can be venomous, but only if I feel threatened.

Useless Burst Of Information Time! The word "totem" is often misused because the Native American tribes from which the word was originally taken, had totems for whole families, not only individuals. A closer therianthropic tradition to the modern use of therianthropy is the Icelandic concept of the "fylgia". Fylgia means "follower" and the word also referred to the afterbirth, so you can imagine how individual it was. Technically, you aren't supposed to see your fylgia unless you're dying, but the belief was that it would be an animal like a crow or a wolf that had been shadowing you for your whole life. I can see some similarity in some Irish folk traditions (according to MacCulloch, I think, his Religion of the Ancient Celts was where I first read about this) where after death, the soul became an animal such as a butterfly or a rabbit depending on the region. If a pregnant woman ate a rabbit, then she'd give new life to the soul. I wondered how that fit in with a Druidic belief that reincarnation went down among family lines, or what happened if more than one person ate the same rabbit, but I guess it was just one of those divine mysteries.

My spirit animal is the fox. Cunning and beautiful, sleek and mysterious. It was a nickname given to me by my friends in high school. It's been my favorite animal for as long as I can remember, so I embraced it.

I'm obsessed with foxes. I have a fox hat, a fox shirt, a stuffed fox, fox background on my cell phone...if it has anything to do with foxes I must have it!

I'm obsessed with foxes too!! :D

At one point I had an imaginary friend horse that followed me everywhere ha ha. I was like 7 so it was okay I think XD.

I think if I were an animal it would be a fox or a cat of some kind. Likely a lion at that.

I would say that a cat best describes me.

Its not because I love cats. It's because I can totally relate to them. Cats are very independent. They don't need humans to tend to them all the time. I think that if these animals can get food on their own, they would have a separate society. :P

Cats tend to be snobs, too. Like them, there are times when I don't really want to talk to people. I don't really like conversations in general because I think that they are a waste of time.

My cat was needy as hell today. He was leaning into me, wanting cuddles, looking really depressed. I took him to cuddle on the bed and it was the equivalent of a crying toddler who's over tired....the kind with a wet face, big tear-drops everywhere, and is just sniffling not really making noise lol.

He was completely fine, just overcome with needing to spend time with me for some reason. I left him very early on the bed this morning and when I returned he was freaking out by the door. I guess I will wake him up fist.

I took the Facebook test and it said my spirit animal was the wolf.  This made me feel very noble.  Then, I saw all of my friends were posting that they were wolves, too.  So, I'm not sure how reliable the quiz was.  These days, I'm not feeling very carnivorous at all.  I think I am something lazy but happy.  Maybe I'm a turtle?  I want to be the kind of turtle that chills on a stick in the pond with the other turtles and just watches the world go by.

I would be a Unicorn, free to go wherever and no one would come near me and try to harm me. Then of course my magical powers would allow me to fly and I would have the ability to heal.

Pure, graceful, loyal and reliable, they help those in need and protect the innocent. I'm sure I was one once!
I am all the above, most of the time.

Most of you chose to be some kind of a predator animal, whether it is small like a cat, or large like a lion or wolf. I can't see myself as any kind of a predator creature.
I love horses; but that is not me either.
I am something small loyal and friendly. I think I am a Poodle.
Even though they are a dog; they are not anything like a German Shepard, or one of the larger agressive type of a dog. But they are  always right at your side, and are one of the most loyal and loving animals that I have ever known.

I would be a lioness they protect the ones they love, they're the hunters and even though the lion is the king of the jungle the power of a lioness is amazing. Their characteristics are a lot like women.

I am a cat. I love cats, and most of them love me back.  I can't have one because most land lords do not allow cats, so I have a pair of parakeets instead.

I love when a cat enjoys my attention and purrs a lot, that is so satisfying, as long as they don't knead on my leg :)

This thread makes me curious if anyone here on the forum knows what otherkin are! If you're not sure, basically otherkin are people that identify as being partially (or entirely) non-human, through belief of past lives and reincarnation, having the soul of something nonhuman, or belief connect to religion, or any other variety of reasons/beliefs. It is most common for them to identify as animals like cats or wolves, but I've seen some people identify even as mythical creatures or fictional character ("fictionkin"). Usually those fictional/mythical beliefs are tied to the idea of there being multiple universes that have the possibility of containing what this universe does not.

I might end up making some enemies for posting this because otherkin are often judged pretty harshly and associated as being part of a dumb tumblr fad, but oh well. :P

Anyway, I am a cat - and I am cat otherkin. A small, fluffy black kitten with a puffy tail and blue eyes to be exact.

I would have to say that I am really like a cat.  My favorite animals are dogs, cats and horses, but I feel that I have a lot more in common with felines.  They know what love is, but they are not always in need of physical attention.  They come around when they want to be loved on and to cuddle. That is me, I am not a constant "cuddle bunny", but I do enjoy that closeness at times. I also enjoy afternoon naps and find myself unable to sleep at night.  This explains my nocturnal online activities.  :)

I love all kinds of animals; foxes, dogs, cats,  snow leopards, monkeys, birds, lizards, fish, turtles, frogs, newts, squirrels, rabbits, rats, mice, horses, and even some that don't exist: unicorns, dragons, etc. But most of all I've felt a closeness to the snow leopards. Like they could be my spirit animal or something. As a child, reading the Harry Potter books, I imagined being a witch and Harry teaching everyone in the Room of Requirement how to fight the Dark Arts. And when he started teaching everyone how to make the Pratronus Charm, I imagined my Patronus being a snow leopard. I know it's kind of ridiculous, but as a child, you have a wild imagination. Haha.
